Outstanding Leader & Mentor

CEE Assistant Coop Coordinator Dan Saulnier received the 2015 EWB-USA Peter J. Bosscher Faculty Advisor Award for Outstanding Leadership from our Engineers without Borders Student Chapter. This national award honors faculty advisors who have provided outstanding leadership and mentorship to an EWB student chapter. Dan has certainly provided this leadership for many years now as a mentor for the students, especially for their project in Honduras. He became the EWB Student Chapter Advisor after joining the CEE department in 2011 as a Co-op Coordinator. Dan’s dedication, enthusiasm, and creativity in advising the students and the communities in which they work is apparent, and it is not infrequent that he is seen with students after hours designing their next important steps on their projects or staging their trips.

The Peter J. Bosscher Faculty Advisor Award for Outstanding Leadership recognizes faculty advisors who provide outstanding leadership and mentorship to their student chapter. Dan challenges his chapter to think beyond their classroom education and to imagine how their skills translate to building a better life for their community partners in Honduras. He provides technical advisement as the team designs solutions for their project and challenges the students to set achievable and sustainable goals. But his help doesn’t end once the plan is set. Dan leads the travel teams in-country to witness these goals coming to fruition. Once the team returns from the field, Dan equips the students to share their stories of change at the university, regional and national level.
