Movers and Shakers of the Cities of Tomorrow: CEE Celebrates 2018 Industry Leadership Night

December 17, 2018

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering recently held its 8th annual Industry Leadership Night at the Northeastern University Alumni Center on November 28th, 2018. The event is an opportunity for leading figures in the field to meet with faculty, staff, and students from the department and exchange ideas.

This year we were joined by College of Engineering Dean Nadine Aubry and Northeastern University Provost James Bean. They spoke about the importance of industry to the work the university does. Our strong ties to the leading companies in civil and environmental engineering ensure that we are preparing students for the emerging challenges they will be facing in the workforce.

The event featured a distinguished presentation from former MBTA General Manager and CEO Luis Ramirez. Ramirez highlighted the work the MBTA was doing to improve public transportation in the Greater Boston area and the unique issues that the region faces.

In addition to the speakers, students and professors from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering exhibited facets of their work through posters and live demonstrations. Professor Ryan Wang presented his virtual reality research system for attendees to experience. Students displayed a UAV used in CDM Smith Professor and Department Chair Jerome Hajjar’s research into methods of assessing structural damage following disasters.
