CEE PhD Student Wins 1st Place at AGU Virtual Poster Showcase

May 15, 2017

CEE PhD student Babak Jalalzadeh Fard won first place at the American Geophysical Union’s 2017 spring Virtual Poster Showcase (VPS) for his research poster titled “Effective Mitigation and Adaptation Strategies for Public Health Impacts of Heatwaves for Brookline, MA.”

As a first-place winner, Babak will receive a plaque and a complimentary AGU membership for 2018, as well as a student travel grant and complimentary meeting registration to attend the 2018 AGU Fall Meeting in Washington, DC.

Virtual Poster Showcase is an effort of AGU, with help from its partners, to reduce the funding and travel barriers that limit traditional research presentation opportunities for Earth and space science students. Students participating in VPS undergo a preliminary review by other student participants, and the top ranked submissions in each division are evaluated by a panel of experts.

“My sincere congratulations to Babak and this spring’s VPS winners on their recognition for their excellent research projects,” said Christine McEntee, AGU’s Executive Director and CEO. “Talented students in Earth and space science represent the next generation of scientists who will advance scientific research and discovery. VPS provides students with the opportunity to share their research virtually and make valuable connections with peers and experienced scientists around the world.”
