CEE Hosts 2013 AISC T. R. Higgins Lecture
William F. Baker recently presented the 2013 AISC T. R. Higgins Lecture at Northeastern University. The lecture was well attended by practitioners, faculty, and students from all over New England. His presentation was co-sponsored by the American Institute of Steel Construction, the Boston Association of Structural Engineers, the Structural Engineers Association of Massachusetts, and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Northeastern. His talk, “Structural Innovation: Combining Classic Theories With New Technologies,” explores concepts and methodologies for creating and understanding efficient structural geometries. Baker, a Structural Engineering Partner at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP and a member of the National Academy of Engineering, is well known for his work on supertall buildings such as the Burj Khalifa, and has received the OPAL lifetime achievement award from ASCE, the Gold Medal from the IStructE in the UK, and the Fritz Leonhardt Prize in Germany.
